Pauline Christensen

April 6, 1929 - April 15, 2011

Paulie, beloved, mother, Bestemor, sister and friend left us Friday, April 15,2011. We will always have her. She is a part of us. This free spirit, artist and poet was preceded in death by a celebration of life. Paulie was born to Arthur Morgan and Grace (Lupient) Chase on April 6, 1929, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to a family of eight children: Kayle Lois, Gene, Russ, Jack, Julie, Paulie, Jo Pearl and Fern; that lived on Sheridan Road. Paulie started sketching as a young child and enjoyed outings by Lake Michigan. As a young adult she saw an article in the Life Magazine on Madison, Wisconsin. She was drawn to the beauty of the lakes and the stimulating environment, and she knew there was something waiting for her there.

Paulie met her sweetheart, Clifford (Chris), the love of her life, while they were both attending the University of Wisconsin at Madison. They enjoyed dancing, picnics, outdoors, college life and friends. They were married in Kenosha on September 8, 1950. Their love affair lasted 51 years and continues. Paulie and Chris raised three children in a close-knit neighborhood in Janesville, Wisconsin. They enjoyed family trips across the United States and Europe, and camping in Northern Wisconsin. Paulie enjoyed her card club for over 40 years, and her fun get-togethers with the neighborhood ladies. She volunteered and then worked with handicapped children and in an early childhood program. Paulie loved to create something beautiful, especially when done with her grandchildren: Johanna, Katlin, Lily, Kiefer, Sofie and Calvin; be it drawing, painting, talking, taking photos or walks on the beach.

She so enjoyed our trips to the Beach Cottages in San Diego. Paulie enjoyed her painting and knitting groups and talk radio. She loved road trips!!! She made everyone feel special, including strangers. Be it a handwritten note tied in ribbon to your railing, a thank-you note with her signature rose, a drawing, a poem, a photograph she had taken, a May basket, or a smile.

Mom taught us to live life with flair; to take life at a pace that enabled you to truly enjoy each moment, and to be true to yourself. She showed us gratitude and strength.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; her parents; her brothers, Eugene Chase and Russell Chase; and her sister, Kayle Lois (Chase) Hailey.

She is survived by her son, daughters and their families: Eric and his boys, Kiefer and Calvin of Janesville, Tana and Barry Zeich and their girls, Katlin and Lily of Orfordville, and Andrea “Andi” and her girls, Johanna and Sofie of Colorado; and her siblings: John “Jack” (Carole) Chase, Julie (Mickey) Gutierrez, Jo Pearl (Berger) Rasmussen, and Fern Gentes.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011, at LUTHER VALLEY CHURCH (between Beloit and Orfordville on Luther Valley Road off of Hwy. 213). Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday, April 22, at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, Janesville, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the CHURCH on Saturday. Memorials in Paulie’s honor may be given to Rotary Gardens, 1455 Palmer Dr., Janesville, WI 53545.
